Sorting Guide
Important plastics update!
Labels no longer need to be removed from plastics as we have found a more staple way to process the plastics.

Thanks for choosing Calgary Community Recycling. While we don't require you to do a lot of sorting, keeping your recycling sorted by following this guide is a must.
1. Make sure your recycling is out by 7 am on your pickup day.
  • Clean all your recyclables.
  • Place all paper at the bottom of your bin.
  • Put all plastics into a plastic bag.
  • Put cans, jars and other heavy objects on top, this keeps anything from blowing away.
  • If you have several cans or jars then put them in their own plastic bag.
  • Flatten all cardboard boxes.
  • Do not put paper milk cartons with plastic.
  • Do not save up several weeks recycling.

Important!!! Click here to see our policy regarding ceramics and lightbulbs.

2. Please do not leave plastics loose in your bin. 3. Keep your plastics in a bag.

4. If you have one or two items of metal or glass they can go loose in your bin as long as they are visible. 5. Metal and glass should not be left loose with paper or plastic.

6. If you have multiple items of metal and glass they should be kept seperate in their own bags.

7. Refundable (bottle depot) items should also go in their own bag. 8. Milk containers should not go with refundables.

9. Place bagged items on top of your paper to keep it from blowing away. 10. Please do not overfill your bins.

11. Larger bins count as two bins.

12. Please do not attempt to recycle uncleaned items, paint or fuel containers, styrofoam, ceramics, light bulbs or batteries.

It is very important that no ceramics or lightbulbs be left with your recycling, particularly with glass. Any ammount of ceramic or a single lightbulb that becomes mixed in with glass can cause several tons of glass to become unrecylable and end up in the landfill
Because this would jeopardize our ability to offer glass recycling to thousands of people, we have a zero tolerance policy with regards to ceramics and lightbulbs.

Anyone caught trying to recycle ceramics or lightbulbs will have their privilege to recycle glass immediately revoked.

These simple steps are all that you need to do to ensure that your recycling is sorted.
Please keep in mind that unsorted recycling may be left behind at our discretion.
